Tooth loss can be extremely troubling when it occurs. The condition can cause a person’s smile to suffer, and it can make tasks like chewing and speaking a huge chore. If it is left untreated, tooth loss can result in further problems, including facial structure and jawbone deterioration, tooth shifts and severe bite imbalances. Although tooth loss is very concerning, an excellent way to cope with the problem is to use dentures.

What are dentures?

Dentures are comprised of natural-looking prosthetic teeth that are attached to a gum-colored base. When worn inside the mouth, they offer the complete appearance and function of strong, healthy teeth. By replacing an entire top or bottom row of lost teeth, dentures can dramatically improve a patient’s smile, while also making many everyday activities that involve teeth substantially easier. At NK Family Dental, we offer support for both removable dentures with stabilization implants, as well as fixed dentures.

Denture Stabilization Implants

Denture stabilization implants consist of a permanently implanted titanium metal framework that is designed to support removable dentures and keep them steady and secure at all times. Because they are surgically inserted into the patient’s jawbone, denture stabilization implants will provide an individual with outstanding support for their removable dentures.

A great benefit of removable dentures is that they can be taken out of the mouth by the user for easy cleaning. And when it’s time for general use and regular wear, they can be quickly reinserted. Although the dentures can be removed easily when desired, they are highly unlikely to ever fall out or become loose at an inopportune moment. This makes them an excellent solution for many patients. With proper care, a set of removable dentures should last up to eight years.

Fixed Dentures

Using four to six titanium dental implants, fixed dentures are secured in the user’s mouth at all times. The implants are surgically inserted into the patient’s jawbone, helping the fixed dentures feel remarkably similar to natural teeth. In fact, many of our patients have said that they cannot tell the difference between their fixed dentures and their original teeth. Plus, the titanium implants will fuse with the jawbone over time, helping them feel even more natural.

Fixed Dentures are highly regarded for providing great strength and stability for replacement teeth. They will not come loose, and their natural appearance and tremendous performance makes them ideal for many patients. When maintained properly, a set of fixed dentures should last a lifetime.
